At the start of the production of this magazine, I only had experience in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint and a little experience in Photoshop. This background was able to help me work my way through Microsoft Publisher (where I made my magazine) and make a cut out through Adobe Photoshop. For skills I previously had outside of the computer, I had a very good amount of experience with a camera (not my cellphone), I had some background in how to carry out a photoshoot, and had minimal experience in editing pictures. Through the process of making this magazine, all my skills regarding camera work, photoshoots, editing photoshoots and scheduling improved a great deal. My techniques regarding scheduling photoshoots and interviews were something that I have never done before. During the process, I was able to successfully schedule photoshoots and interviews with both Grant Calvin and Jordan Feathers, who both work at Fresh Kitchen. After this project, I would say I got a great start in my scheduling skills and plan on using them in the future.
Through the technology side of production skills, I learned many things throughout Microsoft Publisher and Adobe Photoshop. For Microsoft Publisher, I learned how to set up a layout, add word art for titles and subtexts, justify my articles, add and edit photos, and add shapes and text boxes. For Adobe Photoshop, I learned how to cut an object out of a photo, edit and use new color tools, refine photo quality and make layers.
With the skills I developed in camera work and scheduling photoshoots/interviews, I was taught better time management and how to effectively control my schedule. These techniques can be carried onto several other things in life like work, school and extra curriculars, which is very beneficial in the end. I believe these production techniques thoroughly showed through in my work and progression from midterm submission till now.
